Aesop’s Fiscal Fables: short parables about money, family and the choices that outlive us.
On a hillside above Dumaguete, an old man named Lolo Isko knelt in the red earth with a narra seedling no taller than his cane.
A young neighbour stopped on the path. “Lolo, a narra takes generations to grow tall. You’ll never sit in its shade.”
The old man pressed the soil down with hands like tree bark. “When I was a boy, I played under a mango tree my grandfather planted. He never tasted one fruit from it. I ate them every summer.” He poured water from a tin can, slowly, the way a person pours something precious. “I am only paying back what I was given.”
Years later the narra stood wide over the hillside. Lolo Isko was long gone. On hot afternoons his great-grandchildren slept in its shade without knowing whose hands had planted it, and that was exactly what he had wanted.
An inheritance is more than what we leave behind. It is a decision we make now, while we still have the strength to dig. Whether your family is rooted in Negros Oriental or has crossed oceans to settle here, the question is the same: what are you planting today that will give shade to someone you may never meet?
Without a plan, wealth tends to scatter, through probate delays, forced sales and the plain wear of time. With one, it can become a living gift that carries your values, your care and your name forward.
Plan direction (consultative): For families who want to provide for themselves in their later years and pass something on, PRULifetime Income is a Plan from Pru Life UK designed to pay a yearly income up to age 100, with a maturity benefit that can go to the next generation, according to the policy terms. I’ll look at whether its structure fits your goals, your timeline and your family’s needs.
